The Beauty Among Us

As a child it is easy not to
succumb to materialism
at least not in the sense of
cash money and golden coins
a child can find value in nature
a stick of the perfect shape is a new
adventurer's sword or canoe or rocket
childish imagination overcoming the
need for real items valued by others
As imagination fades we grow up into
a boredom that is only triumphed by
acquiring new things or at least that's
what commercials feed us we want
The Most Expensive white silk pajamas
we want the perfect shade of lipstick to
hide the frown underneath or the custom
red Corvette
But what we really need
is to see the beauty in nature again.
