A Pool of Stained Glass

I plunge into a pool filled with crystals
and rubies and the pain is sharp and
cold as I look light years away and
predict the future on the wings of parrots
some twenty thousand miles away
the jungle calls me back in screeches
but I yank the vines out of the way
and swim deeper into the underwater
treasury past golden busts of celebrities
and Presidential candidates past throne
rooms filled with diamond-encrusted
microphones and silver medals I cannot
breathe now but the air bubbles keep
flowing behind me and I can't float anymore
it's as if all the beauties of the world are filling
my chest and a magical aura of bewilderment
leads me onward into the depth of a pool
filled with crystals and rubies.
