Ignorance is bliss they say
as buildings crumble and fall away
as the system of government is
neglected and abused and centuries of
checks and balances collapse into hot
sand beneath their heart-shaped blankets
and sweaty palms, hands over eyes like
a child's peak-a-boo game gone wrong
as the blood flows of a hundred
civilizations wrongly accused and how
far must someone go before they are
reprimanded
How many red lines must be crossed
and warnings dismissed?
Do you not want to see the monster
you have created?
When did peacemaking become weakness?
When did negotiation and fact become futile?
Why pretend to care about the children of
other countries when you fight so boldly
against letting them in or insuring our own
children? The war has begun, but you don't
even realize who it is against.
